Company profile
Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) is the economic development agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. Established in 2009, GTAI supports German companies entering international markets, promotes Germany as a business and technology location, and assists foreign companies with investment and market entry in Germany. With around 60 offices worldwide, GTAI provides market intelligence, investment consulting and access to regional business ecosystems and partners. Semiconductors are one of GTAI’s strategic industry priorities. GTAI promotes Germany’s semiconductor ecosystem internationally and supports potential investors with information on locations, industry clusters, market opportunities, incentives and the overall investment environment. Germany currently produces more than one-third of Europe’s chips, with major semiconductor clusters in Dresden/Silicon Saxony, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. GTAI also provides information on major policy and funding initiatives, including the EU Chips Act, IPCEI Microelectronics, IPCEI Advanced Semiconductor Technologies (AST), Chips for Europe, and the German Chips Competence Centre (G3C) . Rather than administering these funding programs directly, GTAI serves as an important investment promotion and market-entry interface , helping international companies navigate Germany’s semiconductor ecosystem, R&D infrastructure and investment opportunities. For Taiwanese companies, GTAI has become particularly relevant as TSMC/ESMC’s investment in Dresden strengthens Taiwan–Germany semiconductor cooperation and creates new opportunities for Taiwanese equipment, materials and technology suppliers considering expansion into Germany.
