ProSpectral is an innovation led photonics company developing next generation snapshot spectral imagers for materials identification using computer vision. The company’s technology uses off-the-shelf image sensors which are modified with ProSpectral’s intelligently designed nanostructured filters. These thin layers of material (100s nanometres) can be coated and patterned using standard semiconductor industry processes; thin film deposition, lithography, and etching. Prospectral designs “blueprints” for the patterning of these layers which allows them to interact with / scatter light before it is collected at the sensor beneath. The blueprints act as highly specialised optical filters and enable the camera to extract the information from the incident light that is necessary for materials fingerprinting. While the design process can be used to produce a generalised spectral imaging camera, its greatest benefit is the flexibility to be tuned to only collect the “right” light for particular use cases, allowing targeted, application specific cameras that reduce noise and improve data accuracy. Prospectral’s novel imaging sensor technology enables the use of less complex and much cheaper cameras, improves manufacturability, form factor, data quality and robustness.
