WLS 550 is described with three properties: high hardness, high corrosion resistance, and high acid resistance. WLS 550 is a martensitic stainless steel containing the special chemical elements nickel (NI) and molybdenum (MO). New Best Wire Industrial Co., Ltd. applies professional wire drawing and annealing processes to WLS 550 to obtain improved corrosion resistance and cold-work properties. Self-tapping screws made from WLS 550 undergo heat treatment and passivation, after which both surface hardness and core hardness are stated as HV 550 or higher. The same WLS 550 screws are described as having corrosion-resistance characteristics associated with 300-series stainless steel.
