Arizona Commerce Authority presents Arizona's semiconductor history as more than 70 years of semiconductor design, development, and production, beginning with Motorola in the 1940s and followed by Intel opening its first fab in the state in 1979. Arizona Commerce Authority states that Arizona leads the nation in semiconductor investment, supplier expansions, and jobs, and separately identify the state as first in the nation for semiconductor supplier announcements in a 2025 Semiconductor Industry Association reference. Since 2020, Arizona is reported to have won more than 70 semiconductor expansions, showing the breadth of manufacturing and supplier activity the state presents as part of its semiconductor ecosystem. Arizona Commerce Authority also cites 2025 rankings of #1 State in the USA for Semiconductors from Business Facilities, #1 Largest Production Occupations Job Growth from Lightcast, and #1 Blue Collar Job Growth from Lightcast. Arizona Commerce Authority also identifies $100M invested in semiconductor infrastructure, workforce, and research and provides an Arizona Semiconductor Asset Map for discovering companies, workforce-training partners, universities, and R&D facilities across the state. The Future48 Workforce Accelerator at GateWay Community College is presented as a hands-on semiconductor training initiative with support services including child care and transportation, developed with local community colleges and industry leaders to prepare workers for advanced-manufacturing roles.
